FBS Week 10

MarshallWell, no surprises this week. #1 Marshall, facing the 13th easiest schedule, continues to rack up points. #2 Auburn and #3 Mississippi State control the SEC; even Bama sits below them at #10. #14 Florida State continues to somehow win games, and I don’t think that’ll stop anytime soon.

I continue to be pleasantly surprised at #11 Georgia Southern. Even though their schedule doesn’t really allow us to see what they’re capable of, they are far exceeding expectations.

FBS Week 8

Marshall finally breaks the Power-5 “barrier” and claims the top spot. Interesting Marshallnote: Marshall is also the de facto MAC champion. The Herd’s got a tiny bit more defense than #8 Baylor or #10 TCU. Live by offense, die by offense.

The Egg Bowl is going to be the best game of the year, everyone’s pretty much assumed that. But the worst game of the year is going to be (so far) #128 SMU and #120 Connecticut. And UConn will win, and it won’t be close.

Everything else is standard notes. SEC is the best conference, Sun Belt is the worst (#21 Georgia Southern remains the far-and-away favorite).

  1. Marshall

  3. Ole Miss
  4. Ohio State
  5. Georgia

FBS Week 7

Baylor is back in the top spot, as is their wont. #4 Mississippi State is obviously the big story this week with a win over #9 Auburn.

#21 Georgia Southern is a bit of a shocker this year. Straight out of FCS and already dominating teams. Obviously, the competition is a bit weak, but the two P5 losses on their schedule (#73 NC State and #32 Ga Tech) are by a combined 5 points. That’s impressive. They’ll continue to steamroll through the #9 Sun Belt.

FBS Lines, Week 1

It’s back! After a long, boring summer of not-football, good old pigskin is back in business.

These lines are calculated from last year’s results (fresh results are not available until Week 3). Only divisional games (2013 I-A) considered, but don’t be surprised if North Dakota State tops Iowa State. At this time, home advantage is not accounted for in the spread.

I’m going to take this opportunity to file Baylor’s O/U (71) in the not-surprising category, along with UCLA’s nearly 30-point favorite over Virginia.
